Today's product comes from Mountain Rose Herbs, one of my personal favorite companies.

What is it?

The Baby's Bath Herbs blend is an herbal blend containing organic Calendula flowers, organic Chamomille flowers, organic Oat tops, organic Lavender flowers, and organic Rose petals. Herbal baths are a fantastic way to utilize the healing properties of herbs with your kiddos. This particular blend is very calming and makes for a wonderful addition to your child's bedtime routine. The Calendula and Chamomile flowers are particularly soothing to the skin. Their antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties make them a perfect healing solution for cradle cap, diaper rash, dermatitis, eczema, acne, sore or inflammed muscles, insect bites, bruises or burns. The Oat tops are fantastic in combating nervous stress and itchy or irritated skin. The Lavender flowers have a whole range of benefits but are particulary useful in alleviating tension, stress, and insomnia. Add in some Rose petals for a beautiful, relaxing fragrance and there you have it!

How do you use it?

Each 3oz bag comes with one reusable cotton muslin bag (you can purchase additional bags here). To use, fill the bag about half full with the herbs. You can either toss the bag right into the bathtub and let it steep, or you can tie the bag to the faucet so that the warm water pours over the bag as it runs into the tub. Another fun benefit to using the cotton muslin bag is that it acts as a great tool to wash your child's skin! After the bath is finished, simply throw away the used herbs, rinse and wash the bag, and hang it to dry until your next bath. I usually wash it in the sink, but will occasionally throw the rinsed bag in with the laundry.

Soo...what do I think?

I truly do love this product! The scent is subtle yet soothing, a benefit for both child and parent. It is easy to use (my hubby does bath time and he has never complained of this added step!) and because you need so little per bath, the herbs really go a long way. I like that the bag is reusable and easy to clean. At only $5.50 per 3oz bag, it is a great deal and makes for an easy way to incorporate herbs into your child's daily routine. You can also create your own blend by purchasing the individual herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs, as well as the bags/containers needed for storage and use. One of the reasons that I love Mountain Rose Herbs so much is because of their fantastic customer support, which is very helpful when you find yourself wanting some tips or guidance as you make your own preparations/products. They also have a great blog that they regularly update with various herbal recipes.

Creating a bedtime routine is such a beneficial thing for both you and your child, and a bath is a fun and relaxing way to wind down and spend time with your child at the end of the day. Calming herbs are a wonderful and safe addition to your routine that you can both enjoy. Another fun way to incorporate herbs into your child's nightime routine is to give your child a cup of tea at the end of the day. A favorite here at our house is Mountain Rose Herbs' Quiet Child Tea, which is a calming, minty-flavored tea containing organic Spearmint leaf, organic Catnip, organic Chamomile flowers, organic Skullcap, organic Raspberry leaf, and organic Calendula flowers. My daughter loves this tea and will regularly ask for it. Bottom line: this is definitely a product worth trying!
